Kindle Fire

Talk about exciting and challenging all wrapped up in one. That's what my new Kindle Fire is!

Why I am lovin' it?

I can--

Read a book
Facebook
Pinterest
Blog
Skype
Surf the Web.. for anything
Take pictures
Play games

The best thing about my new Kindle -- I now have the convenience of having a computer on-the-go, away from home. I am on my way back to Europe in a few short weeks and decided that the Kindle was the way to go. I got it mainly for reading, although I plan to blog, facebook, pinterest and skype to keep in touch with family and friends a little better. I won't be packing any bulky books in my suitcase like I did last time. I can access hundreds of books from my skinny little Kindle! And I'm so lovin' the bright lime green case. I'll look so tech-know in Europe!

There is a downside. It's a challenge. Why?

I've never been tech savvy.
Never had an i-phone or any thing like that, for that matter.
This is my first experience with a hand-held computer (sad).
I was born in the 50's and, yes, I know that is not a good excuse!

The other day I had to call my daughter to see how to turn it on. I don't know why I couldn't find the power button. Ok. I pushed in the button on top and it came on. So I thought I was good. Well, the dreaded lock showed up. I tapped on it. Nothing. I tapped again. Nothing. It refused to unlock. So, I had to call her back to find out how to get into the Kindle. Ok. I had to slide it with my finger, NOT tap on it. Good grief! Ok. So, I slid it with my finger and got in (even my 17 month old granddaughter knows how to do that!). So embarrassing. It went straight to my Gospel Library that she installed for me. I looked for a minute. That was enough! I'll take my time. Do one thing at a time. Tech stuff stresses me out, but I will do it! And after I do it for awhile, I'm sure I'll wonder why I felt so challenged!

For now, I'll  take a deep breath, turn the power button on, slide to unlock, and look around.

Ok! I can do this.

  1. I didn't really NEED a tablet b/c I have a big phone so I recently got the Kindle Paperwhite and I am absolutely in love with it.

  2. I still have one of the older original kindles and a samsung tablet so now the Kindle Fire (and the Paperwhite) are out and I'm intrigued but I just cannot justify the fire when I have a tablet that can run the kindle app. And every time I try to test out the paperwhites in store, they never seem to actually work. So either I'm losing my tech savvy prowess or they are very unstable! Either way, maybe not the right option for me. The new kindles have such great new features but for now I'll stick with what I've got going on. LOVE the green case by the way!

  4. You'll get it, it's easier than you think. Just make sure you load your books on before going out of wi-fi range or you won't have anything to read ;D How do I know? I went camping once and pulled my kindle out to read and hadn't loaded any books--needless to say I didn't read while I was camping. email me and tell me when you are leaving.

  5. Hahaha! I love it! I have NEVER understood where the whole sliding your finger on the screen came from anyway! And you are absolutely right, not having tons of books to carry around is nice! I have a Samsung tablet and I read on it. LOVE IT! Now my bookshelves will not overflow!! :)

  6. I really like your cover!

I LOVE my kindle. It took me a long time to make the switch from paper books to e-books, but now I wonder how I ever lived without it!

  7. Don't feel alone, I have an Ipad and have to call my daughter all the time to figure out how it works.

I feel sorry for those who are not in contact with a young person!

I think you will really love your kindle on your trip.

  8. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in your house just watching you tap a screen and wondering why the heck it wasn't doing anything! I recently figured out how to read books on my iphone and I'm equally excited! Such a great space saver and my phone is with me all the time, versus a book that I leave all over the house. Enjoy your trip!

    1. Sometimes I feel so dumb that I am tech challenged! Only 4 weeks before I leave, so I better get it figured out. I am looking forward to another 2 months in Europe. Thanks!
