Every Spring the apricot trees surprise and dazzle us with large popcorn-like blossoms.
A Primary song, "I Looked out the Window and What did I See?" is a favorite song that we sing as soon as we see the apricot blossoms pop out. I sang it, my kids sang it, and now my grand kids sing it. We sing it all together. The little kids love singing with the actions! It's a family fun tradition to celebrate the signal of Spring.
PoPcorn PoPping
I looked out the window and what did I see?
Popcorn popping on the apricot tree.
Spring has brought me such a nice surprise.
Blossoms popping right before my eyes.
I could take an arm full and make a treat.
A popcorn ball that would smell so sweet.
It really wasn't so, but it seemed to me
Popcorn popping on the apricot tree!
Spring truly arrives when the popcorn pops--here's hoping it doesn't freeze!
ReplyDeleteI've always read a lot of books that are set in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. One of my favorite PBS Masterpiece theater series is called "Downton Abbey". They film it at Highclere castle which is an actual castle that the Earl of Carnarvon and his wife live in. The estate is in Hampshire. To help support the estate they "hire" the castle out to the production company. I would love a glimpse of it.
The Bronte Parsonage Museum can be found at Church Street, Haworth, Keighley, West Yorkshire, in England. I assume that the moors Charlotte and Emily wrote about in their books must be adjacent because they often walked upon the moors in their stories. They describe them as wild untamed places. I've always wanted to see them . . . so if you get a chance go walk on the moors and take a picture for me.
Why don't you and Kerry just come to Europe and we'll go check it out together!
DeleteThanks for telling me about this. Now, I'm so excited. And, I will take pictures if we get there. I'm hoping. I just have to convince Dave that this is worth going to. You know how that goes!
When ever we went out to dance in younger days, the waitress would bring a bowl of popcorn for the entire table -and a bowl just for me! I didn't know it came from apricot trees! :)
ReplyDeletehaha! Who would have thought that popcorn came from a tree! It's been a fun tradition at our house. Thanks for stopping by.
