Six Word Fridays: Point of Sketching

With pencil point to sketch pad,
It is manipulated to follow shapes
Of negative, positive, convex and concave.
When the artist's drawing is complete,
Picture a candlestick drawn with pride!

My 12 year old grandson and I have something in common. We are both taking drawing and painting lessons from a local Old Western artist. Today, we put a candlestick on a table in front of us. We have been taught to look at the positive and negative shapes; not the object itself. Start sketching. Before you know it, an object appears. And, that's pretty exciting for both young and old!

  1. I soooo used to love drawing or sketching. And painting, too. But these days free time needs to be spent wisely and so most of it goes to photography for me, but I can relate to your words very much...

  2. Hi Carol,
What a coincidence that you wrote about drawing, I quoted Paul Klee, and Jill @ Daily Bread told me that her girls had just studied about Paul Klee in Art Appreciation class! And how precious your story about you and your grandson.

Happy Weekend from you fellow "Sixer" ;)

  5. well done on the classes - drawing what I see in front of me is a real challenge. Great words, even without the photo I can "feel" the movements of the pencil.
